Book for Halloween and Louisiana Lattes
This week a book takes center stage because it's a great read for Halloween, and October is here.
The book is Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris, and it's this generation's equivalent of Northern Exposure, set in small town Louisiana—with vampires instead of Alaskan bush pilots.
That's right. Vampires. We know: people are strongly divided on the subject of vampires, and vampire books in particular. We were cautious approaching this book at first too. However, we found Dead Until Dark in Fantasy & Science Fiction (not Horror), and it's set in present-day America. Plus, vampires and Louisiana, yes, but it's nothing like Anne Rice. This is an entertaining, spooky, adventure read. You'll likely laugh quite a few times, too. Welcome to the world of Sookie Stackhouse.
HBO is also launching a new cable television series based on the characters created in this book, called True Blood, so now is a good time to start reading the series before the TV version goes live.
